THE SPORTS

MEL fields competition across three equestrian disciplines. Each brings its own history, technical demands, and dedicated following. Together, they make every MEL match day a complete showcase of equestrian excellence.

Run together, achieve more, and enjoy the journey.

Tent Pegging

Your next big finish line starts here

The Heritage
Tent pegging is Pakistan's national sport. Rooted in centuries of military and tribal tradition across the subcontinent and Central Asia, it tasks a rider charging at full gallop with piercing, lifting, or splitting a small peg fixed in the ground, using a lance, sword, or pistol. The discipline demands explosive speed, precise weapon handling, and complete control of a moving horse under competition conditions. It is simultaneously a test of athletic skill and a living expression of cultural identity.
The Technique
Competitors charge their horse at a peg set into the ground from a distance of approximately 100 metres. At full gallop, the rider strikes the peg with precision and, in lance and sword events, carries it along the weapon after contact to demonstrate a clean strike. Events are scored on the quality of contact, the distance the peg is carried, and the rider's overall form and control. Standard MEL tent pegging rounds include individual lance, individual sword, and group lance events.
Pakistan's Standing
Pakistan ranks consistently among the world's leading nations in tent pegging competition. The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) formally recognizes tent pegging as an equestrian discipline, and Pakistan competes at the FEI World Tent Pegging Championship. MEL is designed to deepen that international standing by institutionalizing high-quality domestic competition for the first time in the discipline's history in Pakistan.
Tent Pegging in MEL
Tent pegging is the structural backbone of MEL. Each city franchise fields the largest portion of its riders in this discipline. Tent pegging events carry the greatest share of available match points in every head-to-head contest, reflecting its status as Pakistan's national equestrian sport and the primary competition pillar of the league.

Show Jumping

Running memories, one frame at a time.

The Discipline
Show jumping tests the ability of a horse and rider to clear a course of obstacles cleanly and within a set time. Faults are recorded for dislodging a fence, refusing an obstacle, or exceeding the time allowed. The sport demands horse athleticism, rider precision, and a finely calibrated partnership between the two. Show jumping first appeared in the Olympic Games in 1900 and has been a continuous Olympic discipline since 1912, making it one of the most globally recognized equestrian sports.
Show Jumping in MEL
Each city franchise fields show jumping specialists who compete in individual and team rounds during every league match. Show jumping events carry a defined share of available match points, and they bring technical excitement and broad spectator appeal to the MEL match day.
Dressage

Running memories, one frame at a time.

The Discipline
Dressage is the art of training a horse to perform precise, flowing movements in seamless response to the rider's near-invisible guidance. A panel of qualified judges scores each movement on a scale from zero to ten, rewarding qualities including rhythm, suppleness, impulsion, straightness, and collection. Collective marks also assess the harmony of the horse-and-rider partnership as a whole. An Olympic discipline since 1912 and among the oldest organized equestrian arts, dressage represents the apex of technical refinement in equestrian sport.
Dressage in MEL
Dressage brings technical depth and elegance to every MEL match. Franchise dressage riders compete in individual and team tests judged by an official MEL dressage panel. Scores feed directly into the team's cumulative match total. The inclusion of dressage ensures that MEL presents the full scope of equestrian excellence rather than a single-discipline competition.
