Introduction

The Mega Equestrian League is more than a competition. It is a platform built to honor Pakistan’s equestrian tradition, grow the sport at the highest national level, and deliver a spectacle worthy of the nation’s passion for horses. MEL applies the best practices of professional franchise sports leagues to a discipline with deep cultural roots, setting a new standard for organized equestrian competition in Pakistan and the wider region.

The Concept

MEL operates on a city-based franchise model, placing elite teams from Pakistan’s major cities in direct head-to-head competition each season. Each franchise fields riders across three disciplines: tent pegging, show jumping, and dressage. Tent pegging, as Pakistan’s national sport and the discipline with the largest competitive base in the country, commands the biggest share of each team’s roster and the greatest weight in the league’s competition structure. The result is a format that is authentically Pakistani and built to international standards of professional sport.

Why MEL Exists

Pakistan has produced world-class equestrians for generations. Tent pegging is a national sport with a vast and passionate community of riders and supporters. Show jumpers and dressage riders have represented Pakistan at international level. What has been absent is the organized, commercially structured, and comprehensively broadcast environment that elite athletes deserve. MEL exists to close that gap.

Vision

To establish Pakistan as the benchmark nation for organized equestrian sport in South Asia, and to produce a league that earns national pride, draws international attention, and inspires the next generation of equestrian talent.

Mission

To build and sustain the most professionally managed, widely broadcast, and athletically demanding equestrian league in South Asia, with tent pegging at its heart and the full spectrum of equestrian excellence on display every season.

International Best Practices in MEL's Design

MEL’s operational structure draws from the world’s most successful franchise sports leagues. The following international standards have been incorporated into its design:

City-based franchise ownership with long-term license agreements, following the franchise model applied in cricket, football, and equestrian leagues worldwide.

An Annual Player Draft with a salary cap framework, ensuring competitive balance across all franchises from the outset.

Independent match officiating, anti-doping protocols, and horse welfare standards aligned with Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) requirements.

A two-phase season structure: Round-Robin League Phase followed by a Knockout Playoff Phase with a Grand Final, reflecting the competitive architecture of the world's leading sports leagues.

End-to-end broadcast production covering satellite television, digital streaming, and national print, delivered by a single dedicated sports media organization.

Transparent governance: a publicly available league rulebook, an independent integrity officer, and a formal protest and appeals procedure.
